Travelling in France – St Nazaire

It’s time for the summer trip and we’re heading for the Atlantic coast. Taking the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, we’re in Saint Nazaire by lunchtime.

Saint Nazaire is a relatively modern, industrial town with a WWII history with the U-boat pens forming a string part on the docks, literally!

The other highlights are the massive, empty beaches, along with the wide open boulevards. Even in the height of the summer holidays, everywhere still seems deserted and there’s plenty of open spaces.

So far so good and an easy place to reach from Normandy, it’s under 3 hours from Madre.
